Learning to cook for a family of 5 has been interesting to say the least. When the boys were little and Gready was still pretty much a baby I didn’t really have to change much about how I grocery shopped/how much food I made- since the kids weren’t eating too much. Now, woah. I mean, I have 3 growing boys who are basically bottomless pits (especially when it comes to chips… I mean they are definitely our children!). What I have found that works best for our family is if I prepare a large amount of protein in the beginning of the week so we can make multiple meals out of it! It also helps me cut down on the time I spend cooking dinner. I like to either do a whole chicken (on the grill or in the oven), chicken breast, or pork tenderloins. I’ve found that if I want chicken thighs that I can do those the day of since they cook up quickly. I also usually buy my fish/shrimp the day I’m going to make it- or I’ll buy it on Monday (when I grocery shop) to make it Tuesday.

I love going on a family walk after dinner, wear the kids out before bed and get a few more steps in before relaxing on the couch! When summer hits Houston it gets a little too hot for us to take the kids out but a few weeks ago we did and right as we were turning back down our street I could smell, what to me feels like the epitome of a summer meal, Hamburgers! I was instantly jealous of our neighbors and needless to say I went out the next day and bought all the hamburger fixins so we could enjoy some too!
Hi Friends! I just wanted to quickly address the blog/instagram name change here! I talked a little about it over on insta-but felt like I needed something on the blog as well!
As most of you know, we moved into our new house about 5 months ago. We started renovations after Hurricane Harvey hit (so mid-september) and moved in mid-January! I took a break from the blog and instagram since I
1. didn’t have a kitchen and
2. I wasn’t really sure where I wanted this blog to go!
I love sharing my recipes with everyone, but I was feeling stuck and wasn’t sure this was really what I want to pursue. After taking some time off, and talking to some friends/family, I’ve decided that I’m going to give this little blog of mine my all! After writing out what I wanted this blog to be the one thing that I kept struggling with was the name Grace + Wine. I love the name, and it felt so me(!) but I don’t think it accurately portrayed what I am “doing” which is basically talking about the food I make for my friends and family. I started brainstorming what I would want to change my name to and kept coming back to what do I love most about enjoying meals? I love watching friends and family eat my food, I love the process of cooking, enjoying the taste and smells. I stumbled upon the word Relish and I knew that was it! It’s exactly what I want my friends and family to do while sharing a meal in my home. I want them to really relish the smells, the flavors, the company! I hope they feel at home in my home + that they feel just as grateful as I do to be sharing a meal amongst friends. And that my friends was how The Relished Meal was born! It, no lie, feels like my 4th child, haha!
I have some big goals I’ve set for myself for the last half of the year and I can’t wait to work hard to hopefully achieve them! Thank you all so much for following along!
Love,
Madi
